Presentation

The Master's Degree in “Spanish Literature and Literary Studies in Relation to the Arts” is an official degree of the University of Valladolid. It is ascribed to the Doctoral School of the University, due to its eminently transversal and multidisciplinary nature.

In order to facilitate access to these studies to students residing outside Valladolid or who combine their specialized training with work, the Master's degree will be taught exclusively in virtual modality from the 2024-2025 academic year.

This Master is an innovative proposal aimed at the deepening of research methods in literary and philological studies, with special emphasis on the interdisciplinary relations of these studies with other arts (cinema, visual arts, music and performing arts) and with other sciences and disciplines (anthropology, rhetoric, ecdotics or paleography).

The main contents belong to the areas of Spanish Literature and Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature, with an educational offer that includes optional subjects that may also be of interest to students of subjects as diverse as Cinema, Art, History, Anthropology or Music.

The research potential of the Department of Spanish Literature and Literary Theory, where several important groups and scientific publications recognized by all institutions (Spanish Ministry, Junta of CyL, UVa, evaluation agencies) are based, is especially in fields such as the literature of the Golden Age, contemporary Spanish literature or Digital Humanities. In this sense, the Master in Spanish Literature and Literary Studies in Relation to the Arts aims to build on these powerful lines and research groups to offer graduate students the continuity of their respective studies towards specialization, teaching and university research (as evidenced by the high number of scholarships and pre-doctoral contracts awarded in recent years to our students).

Moreover, due to its markedly multidisciplinary nature, the teaching given in the Master's program involves, in addition to the Department of Spanish Literature and Theory of Literature, four other departments of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Valladolid, such as: the Department of Philosophy, the Department of History of Art, the Departmental section of History and Sciences of Music, the Department of Prehistory, Archaeology, Social Anthropology and Historiographic Sciences and Techniques.

The theoretical contents of the Master's Degree in Spanish Literature and Literary Studies in Relation to the Arts will be concentrated in the first four-month period of the course, so that the student, once he/she has acquired the necessary training, will have enough time to be able to develop his/her own stimulating and original research work in his/her Master's Thesis. This Master's Thesis will begin to be prepared after having taken an instrumental subject specifically focused on the practical aspects of the elaboration of this important academic work.
